Who we are


Maggie Riley

Based in Sheffield, Maggie is an experienced Organisation Development consultant with a practical background as a senior manager in both private and public sector organisations including, Manpower Services Commission, Manchester Airport PLC and Barclays Bank where she led development of the HR processes required to launch telephone banking.

Maggie has expertise in both the design and implementation of major Human Resource change projects in the areas of competency based assessment, selection and development, performance management and career and succession planning.

Major assignments recently have included leading a Transatlantic project to develop a competency framework and selection and development support tools for key leadership roles within a major Pharmaceutical company; Design and facilitation of an Executive Leadership Programme for the top team of a medium sized public sector organisation and design and development of an integrated UK/US performance management process for use by the management population of a large retailing organisation.

Liz Cross

Over the last 20 years, Liz’s experience has included executive and non-executive roles as well as consulting with large and small for-profit and not-for-profit organisations. She has a proven track record in leading organisational change/transformation initiatives to deliver strategic business performance improvements.

Her achievements have included re-engineering the cost base of a £40m t/o organisation, saving 4% on turnover, developing new products and income streams for organisations in changing markets, growing assets and revenues and shifting the relationship between producers and consumers to positive effect.

She is well regarded in the UK, the US and Canada for her work in governance and leadership, and in developing market innovations in organisations which measure success in terms of economic, social and environmental impact.

Clients and companies with which she has worked include Manchester City Council, The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Harvest Housing Group, Blackburne House Group, Common Purpose, The Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and Continuing Care Retirement Communities (USA), Ontario Not For Profit Housing Associations (Canada), Egg Bank, and Littlewoods/Shop Direct to name a few.

Liz is a member of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Occupational and Organisational Psychology and holds an MBA.

Margaret Porter

Margaret is an experienced Organisation Change and Development Consultant. She has held senior management and internal consultancy positions in the public and the private sector in including her current role as Operations Director for Blackburne House’s Group.

She has experience in the following areas:
Organisational Development, Recruitment and Selection of Senior Management, Junior Management, Admin and Technical posts, including International recruitment. Performance Management, Management Development, Leadership Development, Competency Assessment and Development. Facilitation, Team Development, Competency Based Recruitment and Assessment. Executive Coaching, Investors in People, Change Management, Training Needs Analysis.

Ian Gleave

Ian is an experienced Organisation Change and Development Consultant. He has held consultancy positions in the public and the private sector in Financial Services, Air Transport, Leisure and Media industries. He is a Consultant with The MR Partnership, and has a 10-year track record of delivering highly successful consultancy assignments across the private/public/not-for-profit sectors.

He has worked in the following areas:
Design, build and implementation of competency-based assessment, development and performance management processes. Design and facilitation of Management Development and Skills Programmes. Executive Coaching. Facilitator of Boardroom appraisal and development processes and change initiatives.

Catherine Thompson

Based in Edinburgh, Catherine held senior roles in Human Resource Management and Development in both the private and public sector prior to establishing her own consultancy business in 1996. Latterly she specialised in trainer training and development, managing a portfolio of client needs across a range of interactive programmes and tailored consultancy interventions.

More recently, Catherine has focused on developing Human Resource processes, frequently as part of major business and culture change initiatives. Specialising in Call Centre development within the Financial Services and Utilities sectors, Catherine has led major design and development projects to build competency models and competency based selection, induction, performance management and training and development processes.

Recent assignments have involved Catherine in developing competency models for the Non-Executive Director and ‘entrepreneurial’ roles and facilitating Non-Executive Director development

Sue Baker

Based in Manchester, Sue, prior to establishing her own consultancy practice in 1997, held senior roles in Human Resources and Management Development in a market leading organisation in outsourcing, Bass Brewers and ICL (UK) Ltd.

Sue has specialised in culture change and performance management programmes and design and facilitation of 360 degree Executive Assessment. Sue is an experienced and skilled facilitator of a broad range of management and leadership development and performance improvement programmes.

Sharon Toye

Based in Bath, Sharon is an experienced Organisation Development Consultant. She has held senior positions in change management in both industry and management consulting. Sharon was responsible for helping to establish the Organisation Development Group at National Power and prior to joining The MR Partnership she was a senior manager in the Change Management practice at Andersen Consulting.

She has worked internationally in organisation structure design and culture change, leadership and team development including Executive and Management assessment, Human Resources Strategy and Structure, Performance Management and Management Development.

Sharon has an MBA from London Business School and a Masters in Organisation Psychology from London University. She has developed a particular expertise in using psychology in the workplace and has attained a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling at Work and is registered to use a number of Occupational and Personality Instruments. She is a member of the British Psychological Society and is working towards Chartership as a Counselling Psychologist.

Carol Pickering

Based in Sheffield, Carol has 10 years freelance experience running her own business specialising primarily in facilitating team development and effectiveness and design and delivery of management and leadership development workshops for managers at all levels.

Carol has also specialised in Gender Programmes, including development programmes for women managers to address the internal and external barriers to attaining senior leadership roles and workshops for both sexes to explore the issues of gender and enable women and men to identify practical and constructive ways to improve working together.

More recently, Carol has led a number of assignments involving the provision of 1:1 coaching and mentoring support to clients and the development of practical programmes to support the development of a culture of “personal leadership”. Carol is also a partner in a business specialising in the provision of training and development in Consultancy Skills.

Margaret Agnew

Based in Belfast, Margaret’s background has been primarily in public sector managerial roles and latterly as a specialist in Management and Trainer Development. In her last role within the public sector prior to establishing her own consultancy business in 1997, Margaret led the design and implementation of training processes required to enable the organisation to achieve Investors in People (IiP) accreditation.

Margaret is a highly experienced facilitator in the areas of team effectiveness and development, personal effectiveness and skills such as presentation, influencing, feedback and appraisal and all types of interviewing. Recent assignments have included supporting an internal HR development unit to develop an organisation-wide competency framework and contributing as guest facilitator, to the MSc. (Psychology) degree programme run by Queens University in Belfast.
